Rappi was created in August 2015 by Simón Borrero, Felipe Villamarín, and Sebastian Mejía in Bogotá, Colombia. Rappi was born as a solution to connect small businesses or ‘neighborhood shops’ with users within a few blocks of the city. Initially, the app was seen as a digital pantry, and a small group of people promoted it by giving away donuts in exchange for downloads. In its early days, its major differentiator was the ‘Rappi Craving’ button, allowing anyone with the app to order anything. By listening to users, the first SuperApp in Latin America was born, and in just a few months, it added trendy restaurants, major food chains, and options like ‘Cashier,’ Pharmacies, and Supermarkets to its portfolio.
